Did you always have an entrepreneurial spirit? Perhaps you were the first kid on the block to set up a lemonade stand each summer. Maybe you collected golf balls from a nearby course and sold them back to golfers for a profit. Or perhaps you made money by betting your friends you could beat them at Nintendo games, knowing full well you were more skilled and capable.

Whether you were born with the entrepreneurial spirit, you inherited it from your hard-working, business-owning parents, or you developed it over time, you likely worked a 9 to 5 or other sort of corporate job at some point. A job in which you had to clock in and clock out. A job where you were told when you had to work and your schedule was given to you, along with an employee handbook of policies and procedures, company standards, benefits, and the like. A job that owned you in a sense because it dictated where you needed to be and when, what you had to do and for how long, what you had to wear, and how much you were paid. Remember those days?

Like many driven entrepreneurs, you might have ventured out to start your own business because you despised that life and wanted more for yourself - more time, more money, more freedom. Now, you own your own business, get to write your own rules and create your own schedule but look aroundā€¦ do you have the freedom and lifestyle you desire? Or do you run a business that doesnā€™t allow time for a personal life because youā€™re constantly arriving early, staying late, working weekends, bringing work home, and putting out fires?

You started your business because you wanted less structure and more freedom but truth be toldā€¦  you need structure to attain more freedom. And you can do that by becoming a skilled architect of your life and creating a schedule that best supports your ideal work/life balance!

In this episode of the Small Business Straight Talk Podcast, I dive into how you can successfully create a schedule that more effectively supports your ideal work/life balance so you can actually achieve it.
