When Misa Bacon was deep in corporate America, working hard and earning paychecks as an accountant, she found herself asking the same question over and over: who is managing these peopleā€™s books because how are they double paying and overpaying? This constant questioning was a big factor in Misa deciding to quit her job and open her own bookkeeping business.

Misa knew firsthand that business owners needed help managing their books so they could pay the right taxes and more importantly, make the right decisions with their financial resources to grow their business responsibly. She also knew that she had the skills, character, and corporate experience to do it right and make a difference in the lives of other small business owners.

Letā€™s face it. Unless youā€™re a person who loves crunching numbers, bookkeeping is the pits. Itā€™s tedious, complex, intimidating, you might fear making errors, it doesnā€™t interest you, and itā€™s time-consuming. Bookkeeping is a necessity though, whether you keep your own books or hire someone to do it for you. Either way, you need to have at least a small hand in your bookkeeping because you are the only person with the intimate knowledge of your businessā€™ inner workings and you are the only person who knows exactly what that expense receipt represents and how it will be used in your business. Knowing that many business owners avoid bookkeeping like the plague, donā€™t give it the time it requires, or simply put it on the backburner until tax time, Misa has made it her mission to turn bookkeeping into a calm, fun experience you can easily and systematically accomplish so you can be more confident and more in control of your finances.

In this episode of the Small Business Straight Talk Podcast, I sit down with the Founder and CEO of Perfectly Kept Books, Misa Bacon, to dive into ways to take charge of your bookkeeping so you can make it less daunting, more approachable, and really build a strong financial foundation for your success.
