Ever used a meal-kit delivery service?
You know, like Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, or Home Chef?
They make the act of cooking dinner simple because they create the menu, do the shopping, pre-portion the ingredients, and send them to you in a kit complete with easy-to-follow recipe cards. What a time and energy saver!
The only thing they don’t do is send you the cookware and utensils. The pot, pan, knives, forks, bowls, etc. are on you my friend.
But let’s say they do. Let’s say they send you every single piece of metal and ceramic necessary for your meal along with your kit. You get to work cutting, chopping, sampling, then add your Pan-Seared Sage-Butter Pork Chops to the pan and walk it over to the stove. This is going to be good! And so easy. They equipped you with everything you need for a delicious meal. You turn on the gas stove and nothing happens. You struggle for a few minutes, try different burners, and can’t get the damn igniter switch to turn. After a few choice words you weigh your other options and wind up baking the pork in the oven. You make the raw pork edible but it isn’t seared and doesn’t taste nearly as good as it would have if you had been able to cook them on your stove top as directed. Hmph!
Here’s the thing: Just as your meal kit delivery service supplied you with everything you needed for delicious pan-seared pork chops except a working stove and so you had to settle for less-than-great pork chops, I can equip you with all the business strategies and productivity skills needed to succeed in business, but if you don’t have the right mindset, you’ll never be able to use those tools effectively to achieve your goals.
Having the right mindset is everything. And if you’re a business owner, you’ve got to develop and nurture a CEO mindset.
