What You'll Discover In This Episode:
Do you consider yourself a perfectionist? I didnāt used to.
But Iāve since worked with tens if not hundreds of clients who have perfectionist tendencies which gave me a lot of knowledge and experience on the inner-workings of perfectionism and how to best manage its hidden costs. I also learned that I am also a perfectionist to a degree but not in the way you might think - not in the way I used to think of perfectionists. The kind of perfectionism I suffer from has been with me for as long as I can remember, even back to my early childhood.
You see, I donāt keep working and working and working on something until it is absolutely perfect. I know that would be a huge waste of my time as the tiny tweaks I might make on something to get it absolutely perfect would go totally unnoticed by others. I do, however, strive to avoid failure at pretty much all costs which is another form of perfectionism. So, now that I recognize my perfectionist tendencies, I proactively keep guardrails up to prevent perfectionism from showing up in the way I run my business. Both forms of perfectionism have downsides that business owners need to be aware of. Perfection sounds positive but perfectionism can inadvertently sabotage your business if left unchecked.
In this episode of the Small Business Straight Talk Podcast, I dive into the different kinds of perfectionism, what itās costing you, and how you can use guardrails to curb your perfectionism tendencies so you can stop sabotaging yourself and your business!
