Ahhhh. Morning.

I just love morning. And not because Iā€™m a morning person necessarily (though I am), but because it offers a fresh slate to start anew and another opportunity to tackle my tasks and grow my business.

Even from the minute I wake up, I know exactly what Iā€™m going to do for the next several hours when I sit down at my desk to work. Thatā€™s because I plan out my day the night before.

Sure, things come up sometimes and I deal with them when they do or I schedule a later time to address them when itā€™s more convenient. But for the most part, I just follow my plan of attack that I had already laid out. Thereā€™s no questioning what I should do next or what project needs my attention. And thereā€™s certainly no allowing emails, phone calls, and people to dictate how I spend my day. I simply follow my plan. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

A big bonus is Iā€™m able to fall asleep pretty much right away when my head hits the pillow each night. Thatā€™s because knowing whatā€™s in store for me the following day puts my mind at ease. Unlike many small business owners I know, I donā€™t lay awake at night anxiously thinking about everything I didnā€™t get done today that Iā€™ll have to do tomorrow, what might have fallen through the cracks, upcoming deadlines, and what I need to do to prepare for that big meeting tomorrow. Nope. I had already gotten all that mental clutter out of my mind and organized the information onto my task list and calendar for the following day.

Do you view mornings in a positive light? Or do you dread them because they always start off with you already feeling in the weeds and overwhelmed?

Perhaps you feel like your days conquer you instead of the other way around?

You can stop thinking every day is a battle you cannot win once you start planning your day. And planning your day does not have to be a huge, fully orchestrated, drawn out event. When done right, planning your day will save you hours of time, relieve loads of stress, and take less time than the Starbucks drive-thru.

In this weekā€™s episode of Productivity Straight Talk, I walk you through the 5 Daily Planning Pavers I use to consistently pave my way to a successful day, every day. I discuss how you can make them work for you, why your well-intentioned plans might not be coming to fruition, what happens when you let your day depend on your feelings, and how I utilize mind sweeping and triggers to aid in my daily review.
