What You'll Discover In This Episode:
Data doesn’t lie.
When data feeds back something different than your hypothesis, it’s really important to listen and not judge it.
As you may be aware, I tried a big experiment in my business this summer. An experiment that took up a lot of my team’s and my time, energy, focus, and money.
I was excited about this experiment. It could open up so many possibilities and I hypothesized it would result in positive outcomes and provide lots of valuable intel.
A few weeks into the experiment, it was clear the experiment was a bust. At first I tried to read between the lines of the data. I tried to justify the data. I thought, “No, that can’t be right.” But it was right. Again, data doesn’t lie.
Every week following, the data kept telling me the same story which demanded I swallow my pride. I made the difficult decision to cut the experiment short and pull the plug.
It would have been irresponsible of me as a business owner to keep throwing good money after bad… to keep using my team’s time, energy, focus on tasks that weren’t bearing any fruit… to keep working on a project that wasn’t in alignment with my goals for the summer or my vision of success. The opportunity cost was too great to continue the experiment.
Mission aborted.
But it wasn’t for naught.
I learned some valuable business lessons along the way. Lessons I’m eager to share with you.
In this episode of Accidental Business Owner, I take you behind the scenes of an experiment I tried in my business to better serve my clients, discuss some lessons I learned along the way, and let you know what’s next.
